I was riding my bike on Hwy 41 toward Marquette, Michigan when I finally understood how completely addicted to oil we are. The date was Wednesday September 12, 2012.
Here, in the middle of the week, in the middle of the day, in the middle of nowhere and this road is busy. It’s fall, the kids are back in school, vacations are over and still, this road is busy. I mean car after car after car, all afternoon.
I asked myself what are all these people doing? It was pondering the answer to that question when I finally got it. The answer is they’re going to the pharmacy, going to work, going to the store, going for an ice cream, going to visit friends. They are doing life.
With our current lifestyle almost everything we do involves oil. Without it, life literally would be over for many.
On that day the magnitude of our situation became obvious to me.
